There are numerous fine details which can allow your business to profit or go bankrupt. Fifteen years ago, when I fist finished college, I saw a profit making convenience store shut down by neglecting these little things.
I began working for a small grocery shop in town which had been doing well for over a decade. Located on the town's main strip, it had a customer base which including passing trade and locals.
The owner was looking for someone to work in the evenings, and as my job hunt wasn't turning up any leads, I decided to take this in the short-term. After all, it was a short walking distance from my apartment and didn't seem too difficult a way to earn a wage.
However, I have to say I encountered a business owner who was unlike any I had encountered before. He spoke without a care, often being abrupt and offensive. Not just with staff, I should add. Within just a few weeks of starting there, I learned that while many bosses and managers know the tips for business success, this business was clueless.
Members of staff could tolerate him. However, shoppers couldn't ignore his offensive, upsetting and provocative views. Whenever a customer was angered or hurt by his opinions, their protests fell on deaf ears.
I was positive that this wasn't boding well for business success. It seemed that he was the only person who just didn't understand that.
As soon as my first job offer came along, I made the decision to leave - not a moment too soon. My former boss was forced to close his shop. He was clueless about how customer care is vital to business success and that your thoughts and views have no place in the business world. This is by no means specific to shopkeepers. Really, any and all who are looking for business success can take lessons from this terrible example. Essentially, you can have every ingredient for success, but if you haven't got a clue how to make customers happy, you are destined to fail.
